It takes time for the congress thread to be set up because the person setting it up has to be accepted by all members of congress. Not as if we actually had anything to discuss in congress anyway.
You get a feel for forums & newspapers of a country. Compare the NZ newspapers to Australia's. Australia has fights & dirty laundry paraded fpr all to see. NZ just 90%+ fluff. Compare Irelands forums to Australia's - sort of similar. Ireland forums are dead. There is stuff going on, where? - well I will bet somewhere in IRC. Is it a private type club stuff. Thee NZ stuff probably in Serbian somewhere.
Arjay's in game thread fills be a bit with forboding. So who is running Ireland then?

In terms of game mechanics, apparently it's just been the president running the show, right?
In terms of national activity, there's 15 or 20 people in a country of about 430 that are every visible. Maybe 30 if you count people who comment on articles.
I know general activity is a concern all over the world, that forums in the smaller countries are abandoned. Time was, activity was defined by the forum.
Truly, if everyone in Ireland agrees the concept of a national forum is dead, they BETTER be using the newspapers if they want an educated population and a transparent government.

Since we're having this discussion on a forum, you're kind of preaching to the choir. I'd love to see more activity but the reality is that it doesn't exist - there's a lot of talk about recruitment and amping up community involvement, but actually doing it is a more difficult task then you might think.

Well that was the idea behind the University. To increase community activity. If that translates to forum activity then good. Anyone have any ideas that could help? Ways to make this University/forum be a desirable destination for players?

Well, it really does matter, Ireland does seem to be run as a dictatorship at present and I am uneasy about things that have been happening. That last RW in Cork. I saw SweetDrinker actively fighting for the UK. I also saw BiedneyMis fighting for the UK. I cannot remember seeing any recent statement about why they were - what I read was in a UK paper and I did not like the implications. I think I understand why SweetDrinker was fighting - I just happen to totally disagree. In fact I don't believe he should have , even though he believed what he was doing was for the best He is the CP of Ireland - he should have made a statement of the whys. I am disappointed, I have had faith in SweetDrinker - but it is not open ended. www.erepublik.com/en/article/the-final-nail-in-the-coffin-2283916/1/20 - anybody read this? I can completely understand where he is coming from. I disagreed with his action, but thinking it over I am much more sympathetic to how he feels

You know, if everyone who complained about lack of activity came to this forum, it would be an active forum. If everyone who said they'd love to be more active, but it's dead at the forum, actually gave it a try, this place would be rocking.
Don't be so adamant about getting others involved. Start with yourself. If you're active and bubbling with thought and personality, you won't have to make the effort to recruit. People will come because they see you having a good time.
And if they don't, so what? The only one responsible for you is you. Don't blame your inactivity on the inactivity of others.

Boudica there have been many statements as to why we don't want to retake Cork. we want to lose any RW's in Cork because we don't want to open up a border with Spain who might NE us.

There is a discussion in the Congressional threads about a possible MPP with Macedonia. What are your thoughts on this?
Me, I think it's a good idea only if Macedonia will actually come to our assistance when we need them. It's great to have someone like them on our MPP list, they're always active and always fighting, which gives us more opportunities, but truly, so long as the US is fighting seven different countries for their survival, we have all the extracurricular fighting we need. The big concern is, what happens when we are on the defensive, if the UK or some TWO nation takes a shot at us? Is Macedonia going to help us, or is their attitude going to be, sorry, we're neck deep in our own wars to help you?
If that's their attitude, an MPP with them would be a waste.

An MPP with Macedonia might give us some extra damage just from random citizens fighting for us instead of some of the other MPP's Macedonia has. But I feel that Ireland's MPP's should be more based towards our historical allies because we know that they will turn out for us in times of need, once we have our MPP's with them we can look at other countries.
I am for Conway regaining citizenship, yes his decision to take up British citizenship was stupid if he wanted to retain good relations with any future Irish government/Dáil but he helped a lot during some of the resistance wars, helping with the supply, paying mercs, donations and buying tanks.
Boudicca: There are two articles detailing why we do not want Cork, heres the standing orders: www.erepublik.com/en/article/-dod-instructions-for-future-rws-2279638/1/20 - All Irish MU Commanders were informed, including yours and all political party leaders aswell. I've been re-shouting the article every time there was a RW in Cork - I was also the one giving orders to BiedneyMis to secure the UK side, as did I, because a couple of Irishmen were still not getting the message.
But I will bullet point the reasons for the setup with Cork:
Danger of Spain gaining a border - signing CoT MPPs can be seen as a declaration of allegiance, if TWO HQs targets Ireland for any CoT MPPs, it will be Spain who will be sent.
UK will honour the NAP, but Spain has no reason too; they are bored and a strong TWO nations with no real enemy.
If Spain were to attack, UK would need to let go of Shannon to allow them to hit us, that will ruffle feathers but UK will give in and then have no reason not to reengage with us with full TWO backing.
If Spain attacked, we would not be able to beat them in a MPP battle, as TWO has superior local damage but we could beat them in a mobile battle in a Cork RW by fighting on the UK side and not allowing them to get a border.
Are you willing gamble our sovereignty over a single region? Spain is a likely invader, our set up gives the best odds of succeeding in defending an attack within game mechanisms.
Again, misplaced patriotism will be the death of us. Using game mechanisms to our advantage is how we managed to stay on the map through the years of facing a stronger enemy and alliance, and that is an underappreciated fact; the bubble of fantasy some in the country have weaven around the peace deal is more dangerous than the British. I've been MoD countless time while the British were enjoying dominance in MPP battles due to their alliance choice, my experience from that: if you can't present a strategy backed by game mechanisms, then its a useless strategy - "Winning" is an objective, the means aren't as straight forward as "free Ireland".
